Monkey and Moon, 1900
Woodblock Print
15 x 7.5
in
Description: A long armed monkey is trying to catch the reflection of the moon on the water below. This scarce Print alludes to a Buddhist story in which a monkey attempts to seize the reflection of a moon in a well; it fails when the branch from which it is hanging from breaks. The monkey's reach allegorically illustrates the challenges of distinguishing reality and illusion.
