Description: On a wintery night two artisans, carrying lanterns, and wearing nothing but loincloths are marching up the slope after exposing theemselves to the icy water to strengthen their characters and purge themelves of negative mental attitudes. The addition of two dogs illustrates the confrontation of man and beast, a device used by Hiroshige as a means of ironic commentary,making fun of the fussy assiduity of human beings.
