Poem 71-29(person), 1971

Woodblock Print
12 x 8.75 in

framed

Description: Abstract kanji in brilliant red is joined by colorful dancing shapes in vibrant primary colors against a rich black background. All elements are richly embossed. In this print Maki has creaated an abstract person - the splashes of color show the head, eyes, shoulder, and legs. The print is nicely matted and framed in silver metal. The work is unusual with the use of multiple colors for the brush strokes of a single kanji character. Dan Tretiak says 'Poem 70-29 is an exception --and all the more interesting because of it.' Note the glossy black ink used for circle top right.
