Description: In this amazing etching, Tanaka stresses the bold shape of the pump and its handle against the horizontal edge of wall. The melon is also a rounded shape, but in contrast to the metallic surface of the pump it is delicate, organic and precariously balanced on the wall. The background, grey and veined, adds another interesting pattern, yet does not detract from the bold shape and 'personality' of the pump, the subject of the composition. Here, as in many other glimpses of detail, often taken for granted in everyday life, the Artist makes us aware of the beauty of utilitarian objects
