Description: This lovely scene is enacted on a bright red background. Mary and Joseph look at each other with serious, almost fearful, expressions, as if able to foresee the future, while Baby Jesus is being washed by two women. Mary sits upright and alone, her arms crossed across her lap. The solemn mood extends to the expression of the three Kings, one of whom gestures with outstretched hand, as if to urge his companions forward. Pointed plants or trees add to the quiet tension in this remarkable image.
