Soichiro Tomioka’s artistic style was born out of his love for the snow swept landscapes of his youth. Born in Niigata Prefecture, Japan in 1922, Tomioka moved to New York City in 1965 but returned to Japan seven years later, where he perfected a non-discoloring and non-cracking white oil paint which he named “Tomioka White.” He established the Tomioka White Museum of Art in 1990 as a final home for his vast collection of original works.
