Biography:

Born in 1929, In Yaizu, Japan, Shoichi Hasegawa is a famous painter and engraver. His work is a synthesis between traditional Eastern art and traditional symbolism mixing shapes and colors, and a western atmosphere. He studied at the Kokuga Institute in Kyoto, then moved to Paris in 1961 where he worked at Atelier 17 with British artist Stanley William Hayter. His work has been collected by renowned institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Museum Fuji in Tokyo, among others.
